Peter Zekert is a longtime teacher/trainer currently doing contract work in both the automobile industry and in the military training industry.  He has also worked as a college math and statistics professor; a statistician for Midwest Research Institute, a government think tank; and as a statistical process control engineer for the computer chip manufacturer Intel.

Peter's passion is automobile racing. He attended his first race in 1976 as a volunteer crew member. Instantly hooked, he began to build his first race car in 1979, a 1966 Austin Mini Cooper S. With that car Peter completed requirements for an SCCA National Racing License. License in hand, he attended his first National race January 1984 in Sebring, Florida. In a tough, 43-car field, Peter finished 4th in class and 8th overall.

In the 1986 racing season, Peter qualified for the National Championship "Runoffs" in his Mini, but elected to race the event in his friend's Datsun 1200. In that first Runoffs he survived a rollover in morning warmup and finished 7th in the afternoon race. Peter repaired his friend's Datsun 1200 after the event. His interest in Datsun 1200 race cars continues to this day.
